I had this happen to my 9800, but I'm pretty sure it's mechanically messed up from being dropped. I have to squeeze the slider and body centrally on both sides at the same time to get the flip...

Just be warned ... if you intend to only use the same Blackberry ID so you can install the purchased apps ... you can't change the BlackBerry ID without doing a security wipe.

He is referring to the version of the radio (antenna) module ....... Part of the BB's operating system. There is obviously a bug in that particular version causing the issue you are experiencing....
