That's because that folder doesn't have modem drivers. That folder contains virtual serial port drivers. Reinstalling your Desktop Manager software will re-create your modem entry.

I had trouble on the VPN part - It appears GRE tunnel traffic for the PPTP VPN I was trying to connect to is firewalled/unallowed. Or maybe it's just some kind of limitation in the IPmodem...

For one, I'd upgrade that Desktop Manager to 4.x, although this won't resolve your issue. Did you enter in the carrier specific APN information as stated on page 1? Did you disable IP header...
