Way of using your bb takes effects on battery. I'm using os4.5.188 and I'm very pleased.

Phone option/general option/dial from homescreen choose "yes".
You should try this way. May be the default is "no".

You should wipe handle and uprom.
Before install any softs, you should read the direction in use carefully.
Infact, there is a soft doesn't work properly and causes the problem.
