This is what I did to fix it. I switched from the SS 3.0 USB port to a 2.0 USB port and the computer now recognizes the Z10. :)

Thank you for your help. I tried each suggestion but nothing fixed the problem. I tried my phone on another computer running Windows 7 and got the same results.
