There is no guarantee that a new Blackberry will come with an up-to-date OS. No telling how long it was boxed and sitting on the shelf at AT&T. Hold down both Alt + Shift and press H. That should bring up an information screen. Look at App Version and you should see something like 4.5.0.
108 (292). When we talk about the latest OS, that's what we mean. It's the last three digits before the parenthesis. There's a sticky at the top of the 8300 forum lists all the most recent OS's for the different models. Generally, I don't update unless my Blackberry is acting odd/unstable or there is a new feature I simply must have.
