Yes, on BB desktop manager, you can tell it which profile to use for each specific function (address book, calendar, etc).

All contacts are categorized. Since he is sharing a subset of my address book, I have a filter setup to specify which categories need to be synched. That way any changes made will be reflected on both our devices.
