Frankly, most (but not all) of the "packers" that I know would, I suspect, respond exactly as you (T-bolt) predict. And about 50% of those would do so for good reasons -- the general safety of the situation and knowing that they could not get off a safe shot -- while the other 50% would (I suspect) simply freeze. For them, their gun is a powerful penis extender.
