Default same problem, potential workaround (or three)

hey john,

way late here in SF, and need to get to bed. but have been troubleshooting the device removal issue for the past few hours. just bought a new pearl and am new to the BB/smartphone scene. Being a mac user, i thought that a simple USB connection would allow data transfer. and have been taking the battery out of the pearl to reboot due to this simple thought.

i tried the following, and am still receiving an "(Error code -36)" when i try to simply copy one photo off of the MicroSD and onto the desktop via the phone/hooked up to the USB:

- setting up the phone to "prompt" me when it gets turned on and is connected via USB seemed to work better than the other options. Still gave me the device removal.
- reformatted the MicroSD card (this cleaned things up on my promo-1xxMB card), but am still getting the the Error 36 no matter how i try to copy the one photo over. No crashes though. Making me think that it might be a file/folder size issue for the device removal issue. maybe not.
- after the MicroSD reformat, i'm not having any problems dragging and dropping files from the desktop to the pearl. just tried a song and a photo and they copied over fine. getting the error going from pearl>desktop. Still no crashes either.

saw on another board that data transfer via usb isn't allowed.

WORKaround(s) to get the Pearl to transfer to the Mac.
  1. for small things, transferring files via email works. it's slow and just not a smart way to do it.
  2. i got bluetooth running (this phone is my first ever BT device) and easily transferred the photo over to the desktop via that. not as quick as USB i bet and haven't done it the other way, with a batch of music.
  3. wonder if pocket mac will create a USB transfer link to take the errors away. haven't gotten to that yet. also think i read that missing sync will connect to iTunes and transfer music. and iPhoto too i believe.
  4. get a reader card/adapter thingy for the microsd and plug it into the computer (make sure that the reader's unlocked so you can transfer data).
OK, off to bed.

good luck and let me know if you find a fix anywhere online, if none of the above works. surprised that BB doesn't make transfer that easy. seems like all is well, except for the nasty error 36.
