If you cradle your handheld and launch Desktop Manager you can go into Backup and Restore->Advanced, select the Memos device database and click the "Clear" button.
As for bringing in other content like pictures, I don't believe there is a way to do this right now other than through the web browser. I just installed the MS web server on my box and I throw pictures on it to download from my handheld.
