Deleting messages from google using IMAP is slightly different. You need to log into your gmail account on your PC. Go into settings, select the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab. There are a series of check boxes under IMAP Access.

Enable IMAP: Check
When I mark a messsage in IMAP as deleted:
Auto-Expunge off - Wait for the client to update the server: Check

When a message is marked as deleted and expunged from the last visible IMAP folder:
Move the message to the Trash: Check

Save these new settings and now when you delete on you Z10, the emails will be deleted from gmail. By default gmail just re-labels deleted emails and keeps them in the archive.
