This is the experience I have had since after I moved up from .73. All the OSs after are 4.2.1, so its the 4.2.1. release. The 4.2.0 release (Tmo .64, Cing .71, and Cing .73)is fine.

Again, it has nothing to do with TMobile or coverage area. The only thing with TMobile is that it seems to happening on their phones, not the other carrier's phones.
I have been upgrading to the latest and greatest OS since I first got my TMO 8100. The day after I got my phone, .64 came out so I upgraded but can't remember what the version was.

At any rate, both my wife and I had the muting, crackling, gotta hang up and call back issue with one of the OS's prior 4.2.1 so I wanna say it it not solely related to 4.2.1. I wanna say we had it with .71. The next release that came out (.73?) fixed the issue. We both upgraded to .103 recently and she informs me today the cracking, mute, hang up and call back thing happened today. I have not had the issue yet and never had it the entire time I was running .101.

The issue appears to happen when data (email etc.) is trying to come in. At least that is my experience. I have not noticed it yet with my .103 device but will be going back to .101 if starts up.
