If you haven't discovered this yet, put the phone in one hand face down with the bottom of the phone pointed away from you. Then, with both thumbs (one on either edge of the battery door), push away from you. The door should slide right off.
You don't need to use a fingernail or other object to "wedge" open the door, and trying to open the door any other way (versus having the phone face down with the bottom pointed away from you) results in nothing more than frustration.
