I kind of solved my own question after some more internet-surfing.
It seems the problem lies with hotmail. If I use Blackberry to send hotmail, the Japanese font does not appear properly at my recipient. I've used google mail, and it works fine.
I am happy I can use Japanese now, and I've also managed to send text messages in Chinese to my friend who uses a Chinese mobile! BB is cool!

I can also type Japanese. However, my Japanese email cannot be read by the recipient, and it only shows ????? on their side. Why will this be? I am on O2 UK. Do they not support the language or something?
