Default Adding new Exchange Box to the mix??

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,

Recently we adding another couple of exchange boxes into our organisation in one of our australian offices. Previously there mailboxes were in the UK where our BES Server is also sitting at the moment.

At the time they worked fine but as soon as we migrated there mailboxes to the new exchange servers, they stopped recieving emails. Decided to wipe the devices and re-activate but the devices stay on the Activating screen, there's no progress.

Just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem in the past or knows what to look for? I did start to check if it were permissions based but the new exchange box is in the same administrative group so shouldn't be a problem.

BES Server has been rebooted but no change so far.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Generally its a bad idea to have your BES & Exchange Servers not located on the same LAN; MAPI doesn't do too well with high latency, but if your UK / AUS link is superb then this really wouldn't be an issue (still not a best practice recommendation). What is your roundtrip ping time from BES to this remote Exchange?

Regarding not being able to add the user it sounds like the BESAdmin account doesn't have permissions on this new Exchange Server. Have you granted BESAdmin the required permissions per the installation guide? (Send As, Receive As, and Administer Information Store)...

Just to add some clarification to the reponse times recommended for BES and Exchange:

<35ms Ideal
<50ms Acceptable
<75ms Warning
>100ms Not possible

Unfortunately it wasn't considered at the time that these new boxes were put in so unfortunately we'll be dealing with rtt of 300ms.

It looks as though the first device has actually activated now but its probably going to prove troublesome and therefore need us to put in additional boxes.

Are there any decent guides available for adding additional BES boxes to an existing environment?

Cheers!

I think you're going to have to consider it, especially if you plan on adding more users as this may come back to haunt you and even more so when you're hitting the 300ms zone which is just too much. You're looking at slow and dropped activations, and a lot of mail latency.

Keep an eye on your MAGT logs as well which you can search for hung and blocked threads as you'll undoubtedly start seeing some of this. You really will need to address this.
