I had the Blackberry Curve for a long while and it was great, then switched to iPhone unlocked on T-Mobile and that worked great as well, but the lack of a real qwerty keyboard finally got to me and couldn't do it anymore and ended up buying a Blackberry Bold. I'm currently using it and it's fantastic.

The only complaint I have is the fact that MMS messages are resized when they are received, but that's a T-Mobile issue because the phone isn't an official T-Mobile US phone.

If only someone would figure out a way to fake the UA Profile on the Bold's to read as a Curve and that would work around the MMS problem, but other than that, works great. MMS isn't a big thing for me cause I can still see the pictures and if there's ever one I want to keep, I ask the person to email it to me.

If you are looking for a 3G BB, neither of those, unlocked, would work on the TMO 3G network. TMO uses a totally different frequency than the rest of the GSM world so only TMO branded devices will work.

You could unlock them and use then on the TMO EDGE network however.

Yeah the no 3G thing is a bummer, but EDGE on the Bold with Opera Mini is pretty fast! EDGE on the BB browser is pretty snappy too tho. I upgraded from the Curve and I think the upgraded internals of the Bold help it render faster. Like I have said before, iPhone and Bold are completely different... With both the iPhone and Storm you have to obviously decide if a touch keyboard is cool or not. Good luck!
EDIT: Just noticed you said you had the flip I totally missed that... Anyways if you like the Blackberry software and the way everything is set up I would def say go for the Bold. I enjoy it MUCH more than the iPhone. It just works better as a phone for stuff like calling/texting/emailing.... Basically all the actual phone stuff!

Let me tell you what I recommend for you:

First, do not even think to buy the iphone over Blackberry Bold

Second, if you decided to buy BB Bold , do not get the AT&T version because AT&T customized its operating system to gain financial profits by blocking some options. For example, the option of switching from 2G to 3G is not there and this would cause memory leak. In addition, some free apps for weather and maps won't work on ATT version.

Third, I had my Canadian BB Bold unlocked for only 550$ in Chicago. All what I did when I bought it is that I updated the OS and called t-mobile to get a data plan. The device is working pretty well and to be honest it's the best smartphone so far I have owned.

I hope this help !

$550 to unlock it? Or was that the price for the unlocked phone?
