Default BlackBerry Niagara Same as 8830 with hybrid CDMA/GSM or not?

Please Login to Remove!

Hey guys, not sure if any of you, like the bbmods/jibi or BG can answer this, (and maybe the lack of or minutia of details that have been swirling around) but since the reports/rumor are saying that the Niagara is cdma replacement for the 8830, will this be like the 8830 and be a hybrid device that supports GSM and CDMA? or just be CDMA. The reason why is because our company is solely and specifically a Verizon shop here and we're looking for that all in one phone that can also support international capability , thus why our BlackBerry 8830 is popular here. We have alot of directors and staff that travel all over, so wanted to see if this device is worth looking into, or just wait for us to migrate to a BlackBerry with everything on it w/ a keyboard (although we have the storm in mind as well)

thanks , any info appreciated!

Right now, since everything is rumor and speculation, I suspect that even the "plugged-in mods" would have to rely on informed speculation. My ignorant speculation would say that it will have the international capabilities, because that is a fundamental problem with a device targeted at business but which relies predominantly on CDMA. Solution -- make it multi-band for use outside the US.

the thunder is a device that will work for you as a hybrid GSM/CDMA device.

Yes, and it questions me , with some healthy dose of precautious optimism, after reading some of those docs that BG posted up, that there will be "overlap" between the Storm and Niagara, which makes me believe that there may be a chance that the Niagara will share the same "hybrid" (cdma/gsm) like functionality the Storm has.

Sith, our Director wants to have "attached keyboards" in traditional BlackBerry spirits, and she wants a camera, and cdma/gsm, etc, I guess she wants the whole bamboozle all rolled into one. Thus why I ask. Yes, all just too much speculation at this point.

I cant pretend to have any inside info, but I think she will be waiting a long time for that.

I dont think the Niagra will share the 9530's GSM support. I expect the future VZW line up to be:

Blackberry model: positioning
Apex: consumer flip
8830: non-camera legacy business model, international roaming with traditional keyboard (kept around like the 8700 series is today)
Niagra: Curve replacement, no gsm but the highest end keyboard BB.
9530: Highend, multimedia and world traveler BB.

For businesses Id expect VZW to push the 9530 for the flashy CEO types and the 8830 for the grunts who cant have nice things. They arnt going to build gsm into everything.
