Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830)

I loaded 4.5 for my wife's Pearl. I don't remember if it was beta. I am on wap so I can't peek up top to see what's available.

4.5.0.77 is now available for the 8130 on Verizon as well. Well, officially as a download from VZW.

My question... Is GPS actually enabled? It has all the options for it.

GPS is never enabled on Verizon unless you pay the extra $10 a month. Changing OS has nothing to do with enabling or disabling it.

Correct - the only OS available on the Verizon Wireless download page is 4.3.

I got a letter in the mail today saying go to BlackBerry® Software Updates to download 4.5, all excited I ran upstairs and looked for it only to be disappointed with 4.3 still there.

4.5.0.89 is here, available for download/install, in this forum. That's a newer version than VZW is finally going to release, and has the added benefit of supporting larger memory cards.

So there's no reason to wait for Verizon to provide 4.5, or wait for it to show up for Verizon phones via RIM's BB update - you can download 4.5.0.89 and install it to your BB now.

Why wait?

I'm confused as well...when I go to the official VZW website it still lists Blackberry Device Software v4.3 (updated 10/31/08) as the current OS. Am I missing something? Is it a VZW misprint as there are numerous statements that 4.5 is now officially a VZW download? I would experiment with a different carrier's version but I simply do not have the time to troubleshoot any issues and would prefer a version that's "officially supported" in case I have any problems. Thanks in advance.

Obviously it's your choice...however:

There is no "experimentation" about it...it's like getting Windows XP from Dell or from HP, it's the same OS, the main difference is themes that vary between carriers - there isn't anything different that can negatively affect the functionality of your BB. Remember that it's RIM that creates the OS, not the carriers.

Verizon support agents have suggested to me that I try upgrading the OS on two separate occasions...I have never had any issues getting support regardless of the OS version I have installed.

If you want to wait you can, but you really don't need to. Whichever carrier's release of an OS version you choose to load doesn't really matter.

Regardless of when you load the new OS, review this thread at that time to improve your available memory...
