Default 8310 camera color messed up

Please Login to Remove!

I have an 8310 thru AT&T, last night i went to take a picture and noticed the color is messed up. It's like it's "washed out"..? The colors seem to run together, there seems to be alot of green color blending into everything and the image is blurry, when i take a picture the screen turns all white and when i go to view the picture in my pic folder it shows up as a tiny red "x" in the corner of the pic. I tried a battery pull and even installed the newest OS release .099 and still no change. But when i go to the video camera it works normally?? Any thoughts or ideas?? Thanks

Try taking off the back piece and then cleaning the lens. I had this happen cleaned it and then everything was fine. Hope that helps

I actualy do that regularly to help keep things clean, but this is actually an electronic issue, it's hard to explain but it's definitely got me baffled

Have you attempted to reload or update the OS... Somehow a file in the camera may have been deleted or curropted. Try that.

Actually It started out of the blue after i had been running .81 for like 2 or 3 months. So after i noticed it i upgraded the OS to the newest release .99 and same result. I even wiped it with the built in wipe feature hoping it was a program i installed that fubard it, still same result.

Yes i went over all the setting a few times just to rule out that it could be something dumb. I really don't get how it's fine with the video camera but messed up with the normal camera... what gives??

I am having this EXACT same problem. Thursday night I upgraded to 4.5.052 from 4.2.2.170. I have ATT, but I followed instructions to a T. Discovered the problem with the camera color, etc, along with a few other things. Last night I upgraded to 4.5.0.81 thinking that would fix the problem, but it didn't. Before upgrading again last night I had wiped the handheld a couple of times. I even went back and made sure deleting the VAD and PTT files didn't have any effect on this. I have read where people have had this problem and gone back to 4.2, only to redo the 4.5 upgrade and continue to have this problem with the camera. But everyone isn't having this problem, it seems. So what's causing it!??? Is it just ATT customers? My video works, but I think the color is off. Unlike with the camera, a video does show up and I can play back. I haven't tried the video outside yet. But I haven't gotten a picture to take yet. And I've tried changing every setting I see to change.

Other issues I see: The music streaming icons has a white background around it; the header banner in messages is the white default background and not the theme I'm using.

Purple_50 found the solution! Just talked to him and he had just fixed his a few minutes ago. I tried the same thing and was able to fix mine too. Take the battery cover off and push on the outside ring around the lens. Thanks again Purple_50!

I fixed it!!! Just before giving up and throwing the phone out, I pulled the battery cover and pushed in on the camera lens. Turned on the camera and it now works normally!!

I've got the same problem of the camera randomly coming up as "green" screen when viewing and not taking a true picture.

In the past typically just a battery pull was enough to "fix" the problem, but recently that hasn't worked. Tried the "push on the camera lens" and it worked. Darn thing!

Would probably take it back to AT&T to have them look at it, but I've dropped the BB once and it has a nice driveway rash on it so they might say that caused it.

Anybody have this problem and get AT&T to warranty replace the device? "pushing on the lens" doesn't seem like a viable solution to the problem.

I am uncertain as to how the camera lens is atteched to the board inside the phone, but my guess is that the lens must snap into place in a socket of some sort, and after being dropped or jarred around it must partially pop out of the socket and thats when the issues start. I myself could care less if att would warranty it because of that cause the way i see it it's working and hasnt given me trouble since then.

Default push on solution did not work

Hi,
I have the exact same problem with others, and tried the push on solution. Do you mean pressurizing on the lens after taking off the battery cover? When I do that, nothing happens on my 8300 and still have the greenish look and white view when I take photo. This must be a bug in the OS. It happened when I upgraded to 4.5.0.52 from 4.2, and I then upgraded to 4.5.0.108 but still I have the problem.
Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot

Thanks Purple_50, Nice Detective work. Taking off the cover and pressing on the lens did resolve the issue, although I still may send it back for a replacement so it does not get worse. Thanks!

Purple_50 is right. I noticed that any time I accidentally dropped my BB, I would get the wierd camera color situation described above. I too assumed it was software and painstakingly uninstalled/reinstalled OS many times over the past several months.

I found this post today, tried it and it works. It makes sense - I drop the BB, the camera gets jostled, etc.

I was about to give up on this unit, thanks!
