Question Curve doesn't react to magnetic holsters any more

Please Login to Remove!

My 8530 Curve used to stay charged all day, and lit up or went dark like a champ as I took it in and out of the holster. All of a sudden, it has stopped reacting to the holster, and occasionally even dials someone if anything pushes on the holster (or I bump the holster into something). I've tried other magnetic holsters (in the store) and my phone won't react to any of them, so I don't think the problem is in the holster.

What can I do, either hardware-wise or settings-related, to restore the functionality to my phone? Thanks for any suggestions.

Did you ever get it wet even a bit damp? drop it? It sounds like a hardware sensor issue.

Question Re: Curve doesn't react to magnetic holsters any more

I had a scare with nearly getting it wet. But I thought the case had protected it from the splash, and the wetness indicator inside the back has remained unchanged.
And there have been occasional short drops.

If it is a sensor issue, is it fixable? If fixable, by me, or only by a professional?

Thnx.

Best case is just that the proximity sensor has somehow failed. But the other problems suggest moisture, as tsac also suspects.

Given your "scare" you need to remove the battery right now. Go read the article at blackberryfaq.com on what to do if you got your blackberry wet, and give the blackberry time to dry. Then test it. But you need to make sure the BlackBerry is dry or it may be FUBAR before long.

If it is completely dry, and the proximity sensor still doesn't recognize magnets, is the proximity sensor either fixable or replaceable? Thank you.

I cannot find information on replacing the sensor. The best option besides replacing the BB is to set the display timeout time and lower the brightness level. This will almost do the same thing but require you to hit a key to activate the screen.

Turn off automatic backlighting
1. In the device options, click Screen/Keyboard.
2. Set the Automatic Backlight field to Off.
3. Press the Menu key.
4. Click Save.
Set the brightness of the backlighting
1. In the device options, click Screen/Keyboard.
2. Set the Backlight Brightness field.
3. Press the Menu key.
4. Click Save.
Set how long backlighting remains on
1. In the device options, click Screen/Keyboard.
2. Set the Backlight Timeout field.
3. Press the Menu key.
4. Click Save.
