Yes, at this time POP works faster for gmail then imap.

The comparison of the two is actually much more complex than that.

GMail POP:
-Instant Push email
-No Read/Unread Reconciliation (meaning if you read an email on your BlackBerry, it will still show as unread when you check your GMail on your computer).

GMail IMAP:
-Not instant receiving of emails (new messages are checked typically every 15 minutes or so)
-Read/Unread reconciliation (this is actually instant).
