Hey guys.
Just got a blackberry Pearl yesterday, and I want to know if it's possible to set certain ringtones, for certain people if they call.

Yes it is, just highlight the contact, push the menu key and add custom ringtone.

oh my! that is soooo simple. that just made my day. now question...i have a pearl also...and when i wanted my boyfriend to have a different ringtone...i created a new profile...which was a pain in the azz. whats the purpose of setting up a new profile for a ringtone if assigning a ringtone to a specific person is this simple? just curious...

Profiles are for more general customization. Setting up a profile just to customize one contact's ringtone is totally unnecessary. Best to do it like zerog46 says.

Setting up a Pofile for a contact allows you to set a ringtone for incoming text as well, but it's not 100% accurate. Sometimes unassigned contacts will pick up the last used Profile. I only use this for 2 contacts because of this. All others use the easier call only customize option.

I have 2 custom profiles:
Sleeping (so everything is really low and other things don't make any noise)
and then sound only with no vibrate. hehe.

Sound only --> Home
Sleeping --> wanna take a shot in the dark?
