Default cancel notification sound while keyboard is locked

Please Login to Remove!

I am new to the 9700; I have had many Blackberry's, previously the 9000 with OS 4.0....

In my corporations environment, security is set for automatic keyboard locking after it times out - I've set the time out to 15 minutes. So far so good.

The Problem:
When a meeting appointment reminder or task reminder goes off, I often want to silence it immediately (like in a meeting). I don't want notifications to be set to vibrate -- I often want to have the notification sound. If I want silent, I set the phone to the vibrate profile.

I think that in prior OS /Blackberries, that if I hit escape, the sound would stop, even though the keyboard was locked. *This does not work with the 9700.* If I have a notification set to repeat three times, it will keep sounding until it's run through its entire sequence.

I want to set the BB so I can stop that sound *while the keyboard is locked*. I can not find how this might be done. Any ideas?

Please help ! thank you !

Richard

Info:
My new 9700 has OS 5.0.0.405, from AT&T.
It is in a corporate environment, so changes are essentially locked down to me.

Sidebar:
(My number one reason for disliking the Blackberry is the darned 8 character password I MUST enter for ANYTHING. Such as when a notification alarm goes off... I have to stop and type in the password just to know it's ..."remember the milk" or "call your boss!". The 9700 is the first BB that I like so much I might not give it up when I retire and get my own phone. No password then!)

Cool more info - still "not right..."

OK, I've slowly worked through this until I now more precisely see what the behavior is.

When an alarm goes off while the BB is locked, pressing the volume key *turns off the sound for only that current "repeat"*. My normal profile is to have three repeats, since sometimes I may not be near the BB when it goes off, etc.

So, with three repeats set, the alarm sounds each time for each repeat. I can turn off #1 with the volume key, then have to again turn off #2 and again #3. It seems it's obvious that "I got it" when I turn off #1. Why does the BB keep going off??

This just doesn't seem the right behavior. I would like to know how to acknowledge an alarm while the BB is off and in so doing turn off all following repeats.

[what does not work:
* volume control
* mute
* escape]

Any further help?

i was going to post a problem like this and found your post. i'm annoyed by the same thing. i'm wondering if an OS update will solve this which i will try soon.

i'm coming from the 8320 curve and it worked out to where even if it was locked with a password, i can press any key on the keyboard and it will stop the notifications. whether it is vibrate/sound both and whatever number of repeats.

and also, if i was in the middle of reading a text/email or browsing the web, i would get the notification and even moving the pearl would stop the notification.

but the 9700 will keep going with the notification. i have found that other than the volume button on the side, i can push the alt key... even if i'm in the middle of sending a text or reading, if a new text comes in, my typing won't stop it but alt will. it is pretty annoying.
