Unhappy Please HELP!! BB NOOB IN PANIC!@#

Please Login to Remove!

Heya guys
I just got my 9700 from Rogers, canada
since this is my first BB, i am having some serious difficulites with this device, and i hope that this site can help me out

1. How do you format the device? because i bought this off someone, and all his info and email, facebook account, contacts are there. Dont want it, and so i want to basically format the device. Please tell me how.

2. Whenever i try to log into fb, or access my mails, ANYTHING that requires internet/data service, it keeps saying that it needs wi-fi connection, and wont let me in.....even though i have a data plan. Is this normal? or is something wrong with the phone. If so, how can I fix it?

3. About the Blackberry messenger, is it free? yeah i know it sounds dumb, but i remember hearing from someone that u can txt for free...internationally, if both ends have BB. I was wondering if the BBM is what that was talking about. If not, please tell me is BBM will cost me data, or I would need to pay for it separately.

4. As mentioned above, I remember hearing from someone that u can txt for free internationally, if both ends have BB. If this requires an add-on for my plan, please tell me! If it is free (haha i hope..), please tell me!!

Answers to these four questions would be greatly appreciated you guys!

Thanks!

Not sure why these issues rise to the level of PANIC. Slow down and learn more about your BlackBerry device and you will be fine.

1. Depending upon the OS version on the device, you can wipe the device by going to Options > Security Options > Security Wipe (or press the Menu button and select Security Wipe/Wipe Handheld).

2. You must have a BLACKBERRY DATA PLAN in order to use the Facebook application (even over WiFi) and to get email. You also need a BlackBerry Data Plan to use the BlackBerry Browser. You should be able to use Opera Mini over WiFi.

3. BlackBerry Messenger requires a BlackBerry Data Plan. Once you have that data plan, BBM is included in your data allowance. There is no additional cost to send BBM to international users.

4. You cannot text internationally free in most cases. You would need to contact your phone carrier for the specifics of your texting plan. Having a BlackBerry doesn't make a difference. BBM is DATA not TEXT.

Regarding #2, if your "data plan" is a blackberry data plan and it has been activated on the device, make sure your default browser is not set to wifi/hotspot.

Once you have the BlackBerry data plan on your account you can log into the Rogers BIS site and enter your PIN and IMEI. That associates the data plan with your individual BlackBerry, a necessary step to get the device working properly.

options > advanced options > browser > default browser configuration

FYI one of the best things you can do is spend some time playing with the device. Go through all the applications, drill down through the menus and options. Look in the help app on the device and blackberryfaq.com for answers on stuff you don't understand. That will help you get in the groove of the way RIM does things.
