Default Keyboard issue on 8330

Please Login to Remove!

Hello all, new member here. I've done some research on this site and found some very helpful information in the disassembly and "ribbon" replacement threads, so thank you for that. I've lost all functions of my keyboard and trackball, except being able to track left and right. According to what I've read on here, I guess that's my "ribbon" also? I'm just trying to see if you guys have any other ideas before I order a part. Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Did you drop it or get it wet?

time to get a newer one...
for about the same price you'd spend repairing the original curve, you could get a newer model curve. I know the original one has a flash, if that's the reason you like the curve 1, then look around for another, less than $50 will likely get you a primo replacement.

Dub, I drop it every once in a while, but it's in a plastic/gel case. It's never gotten wet, but last week some drops of moisture from the outside of a cup dropped on the screen/track ball area. Didn't think much of it because it was such a small amount.

Fresh, I hear what you're saying. I don't favor anything in particular about this one, but just figured if I could replace a part for $15 or so, I'd do it and keep it.

Electronics and moisture don't play well together. There have been reports of simply having the device in a sweaty pocket causing erratic behavior. The problem is, once it gets wet, you really don't know what kinda damage has been caused until things start going wrong. And even then it's not clear what to repair.

I have also heard people dropping their devices only once and ceases to function.

These days cell phones are mini computers and should be treated as such. Not like the simple dumb phones in the past. You can try and repair it, but probably not worth the time, effort, or money.

Update: I wanted to mention this before, but I really couldn't believe it myself, but now I'm sure. My issue seems to be associated with the amount of time it's turned off. In other words, the longer the device is turned off, the longer it works like it should when I turn it on. For example, I've had the unit disassembled and turned off since I left the last post here over a week ago, and just reassembled it yesterday. It worked great, just as it should, for about 3 or 4 hours. I was happy, thinking I must have removed a piece of dirt during the disassembly. Then it basically became inop, except for being able to rotate the track ball left and right, and the unit would erratically dial the # and * digits all by itself.

So is this still a keyboard issue?

Not sure anyone will be able to tell you authoritatively what the issue is.

Being that you admittedly dropped it and gotten it wet, there are no guarantee's the part(which ever) you replace will fix it. You can try of course, but that is your decision.
