Hi everyone,

we have several useres on our BES 5.0. When we switch devices for newer models the automatic wireless backup / restore helps us not loosing settings like browser / phone history, bluetooth and wireless settings and some other stuff.

BUT what about those 3rd party apps? I know I can backup them and restore them with BBSAK and other tools. That works also fine BUT I haven't found a way yet to backup the app settings.

As bb os is java and has no "registry" I assume there must be some sort of files on the local bb storage. But as I said I still haven't found how to backup those settings.

Would be great if someone has a solution for this.

Applications must support the Synchronization API for their settings to be backed up and restored. If you are doing it strictly with the BES over the air, they have to support the OTASynchronization API.

Many third party apps (BBWeather is one example) do not back up their settings. So when it is installed (or reinstalled) you have to enter the data.

Many many apps don't save the settings on restore.

As NJ said, BBWeather doesn't, neither does BerryWeather, Facebook.

TeleNav does, all the settings for your app are saved to their server and re-enabled on reinstall and login. SocialScope does.

I can see why special API's are needed for automatic wireless backup via BES.
But you have to admit that facebook username/password and the bbweather settings must be somewhere on the device. If not you'd have to enter them every time the app starts.
