Default BES upgrade question

Please Login to Remove!

I have a client that has a BES, and it is dying a slow death, and we want to replace it. The question is: this server has version 4.0.something, and I know the current is 4.1.5. We are plannig to build a new box for the BES and install the latest software. Do we REALLY need to move, or try to move the database from the old server to the new, or can we just start fresh, and add the same users that were on the old one?? I am thinking that they are WAY behind in versions, and it wouldn't matter to start all over again.

I hope this question wasn't too confusing, but just wanted to know if starting fresh was better. There are only 11 users on the BES.

Thanks!!!

How many users are on the existing BES? If you do not move the database, the users will all need to go thru the Enterprise Activation (after a device wipe, to avoid duplicate data).

I'd move the database.

I'd move the database.

There are 11 users on the existing server.

I assume that there is documentation on RIM's site about moving the database. Is it very difficult?

Also, thanks for the mega-quick reply!!!!

Yes, there is plenty of documentation for doing this. What environment do you have? Exchange, Notes, Groupwise.....

And what kind of database? MSDE or SQL?

I believe this is what you're looking for. Give it a read thru.

How to move the BlackBerry Configuration Database to a new Microsoft SQL Server or instance
