Default Curve Track Ball

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all, its good to join this forum, and hope you can help a newbie??!!

I have a curve, and all of a sudden the track ball doesn't work.

As an example, when i enter my password to unlock the device, pressing the track ball as the 'enter' key simply adds 2 asteriks to the typed password!! To get the device to accept the password i have to use the actual 'return' key itself.
The ball allows me to navigate around the screen, but can't use it as a 'return'.
I can feel it clicking ok when i depress it as well...........

Hope someone can help me.

Many thanks for your time.

any water damage to the phone or physical damage? sounds like the trackball 'click' circuit is shorting with some other circuitry. try to compose a text message and just press the trackball when in text entering mode, see what it does. if it functions like normal, it is some other problem, but if it enters some letters or spaces when doing so, then there's a definite problem with certain circuitry.

either way, if it's under the 1 year warranty and there is no apparent physical/water damage, RIM will honor the warranty and send you a refurbished phone. contact vodafone for their device exchance center or their customer service number for instructions on doing a return through the mail.

good luck

many thanks for the advice.

no, no water damage but i did drop it a few hours ago, but not too badly (maybe a metre onto carpet).

i notice the 'back' key is not performing as well as it should.

i bought it from Ebay so no warranty.............should i buy a new track ball etc or should i send it for a no doubt expensive repair?

Thanks once again.

Sounds like a hardware issue. I doubt a new trackball would help at all.
