Default Video on the 8100???

Please Login to Remove!

Will there ever be a software update that includes video for the original 8100? Or am I going to have to buy the new pearl that is out...

OS 4.5 does NOT include video recording on the original Pearl. If you want video recording you'll have to upgrade.

I actually updated my wife's 8100 to 4.5 telling her, "You'll be able to record video!"

I did the upgrade and confidently walked up to her to show her how to do it.

"Hey, where is the option?"

Back to search the forums a bit and I found out why. :P

A few days later she asked me to drop it back down to 4.2.

John made it clear above, you will NOT be able to record video on the 8100. You will need to upgrade your device as in buy new. I got an 8120.

Rats!! I originally thought that later 4.5 upgrades might bring this feature?

No, you can't. Not on an 8100.

Hmm, actually his second link does seem to provide a "hack" of sorts to record video on the 8100

This is my first time with a BB and I specificially wanted one with video recording because both my husband and son have it on theirs we like to send video's back and forth. I only got the BB 8100 because I previously had a Shadow and every month or so, it would just malfunction, so after mutliple returns, it was the choice of BB8100 or Shadow again. I went with the 8100. Tmobile assured me it would work and a few other people as well. When on the BB site, it states you need a SD card inserted in your phone before doing the upgrade. I bought one... a 4gig for $15 (I hope it works!), so tonight, I'm going to try. *wish me luck!*.

Sorry to rain on your parade... but you can't do video recording with the Pearl 8100.
T-Mobile and the few other people you spoke to are mistaken.

You'll need a lot more than luck. The 8100 *may* be able to record video, but NOT in the traditional sense. There is a hack out there, as referenced by previous posters. Configure at your own risk. It's a sad excuse for video, and is presented in "Sepia" mode, which gives horrible colors and contrasts.

Anyone who tells you the 8100 can record video with the OS update is simply misinformed. Anyone who sells you a media card for this purpose is either misinformed, or pulling a fast one.

I don't know why anyone would want to go back to 4.2 from 4.5. Just my thoughts

In 4.2 my 8100 sounds louder about 50% comparing to 4.5. I downgraded it too!
