Default Warranty on Rogers Bold bought via Ebay

Please Login to Remove!

Just curious if anyone would know how this work. I bought the device new in Box from someone in Canada off eBay. Does the device still have the 1 year Warranty? How would I go about claiming it if I am in the US?

Luckily everything work, but just in case!

If you purchased via a 3rd party the warranty does not apply. Unless you have a copy of the original purchase receipt

AFAIK, the warranty applies to the original buyer. . . and since it's a Rogers device, it will need to be returned to Canada in case it still qualifies for warranty service.

Default Warranty

Ahh, yes.. Let me tell you what happened to me...

Got the Bold from eBay, came from Quebec.

Used it for 4 days, it died. BB wouldn't replace it because it's a Rogers device. Rogers wouldn't replace it because I'm in the US.

I had to sign up for a prepaid Rogers plan under a friend's address in canada. Then fight with rogers to have them ship a replacement - took a total of 5 hours on the phone.

I shipped my phone to my friend, Rogers sent the replacement to him, he did the swap and I got my phone back yesterday - 6 days before the US release.

Tried to get an unlock code, and because it is a replacement unit, it's not in Rogers DB, so it has to go through RIM. 7-14 business days.

So.. I am going to unlock it, hopefully sell it on ebay for around what I paid for it ($550-650), then go get the ATT subsidized model to try to recoup my ridiculous international shipping rates. <sigh>

So - if it breaks.. I hope you have a friend in Canada and a lot of spare time.
