Can video be played back in landscape mode and wide-screen format on the Storm?

A few threads I've been reading seem to imply no to both questions. If true, why is this so? Nowadays all new televisions sold are wide-screen; most, if not all new programming is done in widescreen as well. So why is it so difficult to adhere to these formats?

If you go to blackberry.com you can see that they play videos on the Storm in landscape mode.

thanks...didn't see that video and I think some others haven't either since I've read a couple of references to 4:3 display only.

I think it will play the video in whatever format it's coded in. But it will play in landscape mode on the handheld.
