Cingular Unveils New Messaging Services
By Susan Rush
October 24, 2005
Cingular Wireless will enable the delivery of mobile messaging and mobile IM to its customers' existing cell phones thanks in part to a new deal with OZ Communications.
Cingular's two new service options, Mobile Email and Mobile IM, are designed to bring wireless data to the mass market, according to Cingular Vice President of Consumer Data Services Jim Ryan.
The services give customers the ability to access e-mail from AOL Mail, MSN Hotmail and SBC/Yahoo! and Yahoo! Mail accounts. The carrier also supports IM accounts from AOL, Yahoo! and MSN. Customers with a compatible handset will be able to download the services for free. The applications provide pre-configured access to existing e-mail and IM accounts, according to Cingular.
OZ Communications' OZ Mobile Email Solution, a consumer centric mobile e-mail application, powers the Mobile Email service.
While the services are being offered for free, Cingular customers will be required to subscribe to one of the carrier's data plans to access the features.
Not compatible with BB. Does anyone know how to access hotmail from my 7100g? It keeps telling me that it is coming soon, as if Cingular has some wierd access issue.
