Knowledge Sharing - Seven-day message expiry for out-of-coverage users
Please Login to Remove!
Description
When a BlackBerry smartphone is unable to receive messages (for example, if the user is out of network coverage or the radio is off), the messages remain in a queue on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server until the BlackBerry smartphone connects to the wireless network. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server sends the first five messages in the queue to the BlackBerry smartphone. New messages arriving in the queue are not sent until after the BlackBerry smartphone receives the first five messages.
After seven days, if the BlackBerry smartphone has not received the first five messages in the outgoing queue, the messages are purged. The next five messages in the queue are then sent to the BlackBerry smartphone. If those messages are not received in seven days, they will be purged, and so on. The seven-day expiry code affects all out-of-coverage users with accounts on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server for IBM Lotus Domino or BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Microsoft Exchange.
Additional Information
When the BlackBerry Enterprise Server is restarted, it purges all messages in the queue that are seven or more days old, regardless of whether or not the messages have been sent to the BlackBerry smartphone.
