Question What will the flood of iPhones do to service availability on AT&T/Cingular

Please Login to Remove!

So, we're hearing about lots of people getting giddy about getting the iPhones. I've been wondering if there will be impacts to AT&T's network availability and bandwidth wit the flood of new users?

What do you think?

I think there will be little, to no noticable, impact at all.

Logically, a lot of the new iPhone users will already be AT&T customers. So that probably means a lot of phones already in use on the network will be getting replaced/retired.

Nothing noticeable from a user perspective. I'm sure once they ran their reports that they will be able to see a slight change.

Though it would be a hilariously bad time for AT&T to have a totally unrelated major outage.

I read a report on boygeniusreport.com that people are reporting an increase in EDGE speeds today. They claim, however, it could be due to the shut down of TDMA.

EDGE speed on my Treo 680 just about doubled today. It's running between 140-170kbps.
