Default MDS url .:7433/mds

Please Login to Remove!

hi all

searched the boards but can't find a simular problem so here it goes.

after installing BES 4.1.3 for Groupwise on a Windows 2003 server (SP2) the MDS services in the Blackberry Manager show like this:
https://hostname.:7433/mds

i've installed this before but i've never seen a "." behind the hostname rather than ".domain.name"

when i go to the url using IE then i do get the MDS webpage, also the :8080 page is active but from the Blackberry Manager i can't get a working connection to the MDS. what i get is a login prompt and then it fails.

the server has been installed 3 times already with the same result. dns settings on the machine shoudl be correct (system can resolve it's own name, internet names, local names with or without specifying local domain name).
the 2003 server resides in a NT4 domain, no AD running.

anyone has any idea where to look for?

thanks!

found the solution for this. since the server wasn't part of an Active Directory domain but just an NT4 domain the local domain name wasn't automatically added to the computer name.

what to check if you have the same problem:
open properties of "my computer"
go to "computer name"
click "change"
click "more" and see that the domain name text field is empty

uninstalling bes + mds and reinstalling it after adding the domain name to the field mentioned above (reboot required) solved the problem. the mds services show up like it should (https://host.domain.name:7443/mds)

Thumbs up Almost there....

Hi,

Grerat, thanks. That worked for me.

Just one small thing.... Now I have reinstalled BES & MDS I have 2 instances of MDS showing in Blackberry Manager. The original one as above and the now working, correct one. I have tried uninstalling twice as well as deleting all files I can find and even registry entries. I still get 2!
I did notice that when I reinstall all the key information is already populated.
Where can it be picking this up? I assume that if I can find that I will get a 'clean' install.

cheers.
