with 3g not being good in US are you now more looking forward to the javelin?

thing is I love the bold and have been being patient in the US but now with the javelin on the horizon do you think you are more looking forward to that rather in the bold? I love the javelins size and while 3g would be nice I feel like in the US especially on at&t its just BS and doest make things significantly faster

I'm not sure yet, I'd like the Bold but the Javelin is tempting also. I wish there was a release date for Javelin already to compare...chop chop RIM

It's all but certain that 3G coverage will improve everywhere quickly save for very rural areas over the next six to twelve months, so I wouldn't decide on a device based on 3G coverage alone. Something many will find more important in the decision will be UMA funtionality. It's unlikely that the Bold (or any 3G device right now, and I hope to be proven wrong sooner than later) will support UMA anytime in the near future. However, I would bet that it will be ready to go on the Javelin from day one.

Plus the Bold is truly a world phone (for those frequent travelers to Japan and S. Korea) you can basically roam without switching phones. So even if you get spotty 3G coverage in the US, you are covered when traveling to Asia.

JLAWS, are you on T-Mobile, if that is the case then the Bold will not work with their 3G service as they build it out, which would lead me to say wait for the Javelin. If you are planning to switch to ATT, then the Bold is a great device. And as was said, 3G coverage is pretty solid in most major metropolitan areas.

Innergeek, I see that you're in L.A...What area are you in? The reason that I'm asking is because I'm thinking about switching from Verizon to ATT and I'm in the West L.A. area...Just wondering how the 3g coverage is...Thanks!

I live in West Hollywood and work in Universal City. I find the 3G coverage to be solid. It is intermittent when I am in my office building and of course if you are in the hills (but you don't often get much of anything up there), but outside of that I don't have many complaints.

I'm in northern New Jersey (about 40 minutes from NYC) and 3G is excellent. I'm all about the 3G now. Any phone I get HAS to be a NAM 3G device from now on.

Shakespeare would have loved Javelin. But when he said "2G or not 2G, that is the question", he was only half right.
Global performance of 2G/GPRS is now more or less a given. But we've had 3G in UK since 2002, and it's still patchy even in cities as we endure lost calls during 3G/2G handover.
So if you're looking to Bold for that lightning fast refresh of BB Maps as you hurry to your next appointment, you may find that once it loses 3G it won't go down to GPRS without prodding a few keys, not to be recommended when driving.
You could of course take the bus or train, where the need to navigate is replaced by the urge to stave off boredom. So you turn to YouTube, at least for that fleeting moment until all bars disappear in the first tunnel.
It's not all bad; Bold's fully loaded spec and slinky UI make it quite a satisfying device. Shame that local carriers' antics prevent many Americans from sharing the experience. There can surely be no such excuses for delays to the launch of Javelin.

3G is excellent in Jacksonville. My Bold has had zero dropped calls. Everyones service will vary and if you have poor coverage or even below average coverage, 3G will not be good. Good 3G coverage demands a good signal.

Exactly, if it wasn't so damned expensive I'd be getting a few now for our sales guys rather than having to give them the loan 8707G (what a brick).

Given that the Blackberry network compresses data, roaming with the Blackberry is very good on the pocket. Our guys don't even bother adding the unlimited international plan. They just go with pay per use when the fly out internationally.
I wonder if anyone of these forums has or knows someone who has roamed internationally using an iPhone or a Windows mobile device and seen their bill yet. I have heard it can go through the roof for the same amount of email traffic that may cost you twenty-thirty dollars in data roaming charges on the BB.
Sorry that this discussion is not strictly related to the Bold....I digress.

While I do think the Bold will be very popular it will not be like a iPhone release. If you go to a company store you should be able to walk right in and get one. My dealer said if they sell out they will have more coming the next day.

Anyone from AZ trying the Bold with 3G? They only show it in Phx and Tucson, just curious.
