Default Back up

Please Login to Remove!

For a number of weeks, since I got my Blackberry, it has been backing up through Blackberry Manager without a problem. This week it has failed on every attempt showing a simple 'backup failed' notice and nothing else apart from the 'OK' button which closes the notice. It always happens at the same place, just as it tries to back up MMS. Any ideas?

The advanced backup/restore feature in desktop manager allows you to selectively clear databases on the device.

My guess is the MMS databases is corrupted. If it were me, I would clear it and then run backup again to see if that was it.

You can then do a selective restore of MMS messages from a previous backup, if you want.

Thanks. That was what I thought, so it was the first thing I tried. I also selectively tried not to back up MMS using the 'advanced' features and that didnt work either. Finally, I deleted Blackberry Manager and re-installed it from the web, but got the same result. I am still baffled...

I really don't know. I guess if it were me I would do a security wipe of just user data (don't select to remove third-party apps), and then try a backup first thing with the clean device. Following that, try restoring your last previous successful full backup, and then run a backup on that. See what happens.

If that doesn't work, repeat and try the next earlier backup.

But I'm guessing. If backup is failing at MMS each and every time, it seems to me clearing the MMS database should solve the problem. I can't help but think there is another clue that you are just missing. And maybe it isn't the device.

Have you viewed the log file in desktop manager?

Try clearing the Browser cache via the advanced tab on Desktop Manager or through the browser itself.

Thanks, that seems to be the answer. Clearing the browser cache has allowed a successful back-up
