Default BB 9800 1st impressions & is there a BB cloud ?

Please Login to Remove!

Just bought a new 9800. Absolutely excellent.
Probably the best keyboard phone I have ever had.
I previosuly tried an iphone 4 and an HTC HD7, both excellent but the email is just not as reliable, particularly as BB can claw email in areas of intermittant signal by downloading pieces. Wiith Apple/WP7/Android all new emails have to come at once, otherwise the whole thing fails. So at my work reception is very dodgy but the 9800 has no difficultly in getting my email asap. With the iphone I had to go for a walk outside to get my email!!

What made me finally come back to BB was the inclusion of the webkit browser. I could never get on with BB browsing before, this is a big breakthrough.
The screen is also great and easy to read.

I can't understand many of the reviews saying it is complicated. There are many more options then iOS/WP7 (Android ??) but for someone like me this is a positive advantage. Perhaps reviewers are not as clever as they used to be

My main question is, is there a blackberry cloud, like Apple, MS & Google have. Where you can sync your contacts and calendars online as well as to a desktop ?

You can use Google to sync contacts and Calendar. Search on Google sync

thanks for the advice
just installed google sync and all my contacts have come through

I have gsyncit for outlook, so I sync three ways:
outlook -> google -> BB

So I guess BB desktop now is just for backup

You don't need Google Sync to have wireless sync of Contacts and Calendar.

For Google accounts, wireless Contact and Calendar sync are built into BlackBerry Internet Service.

ok great
so that works as well

which is better ? It seems that with google sync you can change the syncing schedule and make it manual only (which I would do to save battery as I don't update contacts or diary often) and with the inbuilt sync you can't change settings - is that true ?

contacts sync around every 4 hours, I don't think it will effect your battery that much. I am not sure how often the calendar syncs? this ain't no iphone, you really don't need an outlet within eyesight at all times.
