I have the BB 8900 and yesterday my desktop software asked me to update to os 5.0.0.900 and I did. Yet I noticed afterwards that whenever I would read an email from top to bottom and close it, a red X would appear next to the email header in my email/messages folder. I know that seeing red Xs are typical whenever a message is unable to send but in this case I was not trying to send any emails, just read them.

I downgraded back to os 5.0.0.822 today and still notice the same thing.

Can anyone explain why this is happening?

When you open the message again (one with the red x) do you get any error message? If scroll all the way up, what do you see in the message status field?

I suspect the message is no longer on the BIS server even though it is still on the handset. But just guessing.

I've never had that happen with an upgrade. I have seen it -- or that sort of thing -- with messages that remain on the handset after I delete an address from BIS.

Sounds like the red x is only next to messages that exceed the 2kb download on the handset? That is, you don't see the end of the message, and the More and More All functions don't work for the message?

At any rate, if I'm right and the messages are no longer on the BIS, then there is nothing you can do. Hopefully that's not the carrier's blackberry.net address and the emails aren't totally lost.

did you try a battery pull? the red X usually means the email was not delivered.
