I haven't looked all that deeply, but I haven't seen any carrier with a casual usage data plan for Blackberries.

All or nothing, so far as I've seen so far.

But, again, I've not dug all that deeply into this.

Wrong.
No BB Data Plan = No PIN Messaging. End of story.

the company I work for has used BB's since the 950 and always used PINs with email on the BES. Very valuable to bypass mail system esp if you just want to send someone a quick message.

Haven't used it yet, but I have only had the 7130e for a few days now. Had a bb before and I am glad I decided to come back. I forgot how addictive they are and useful.

The only time I ever used a BB-to-BB pin was when my company knowingly had the network down for network upgrades, mail server upgrades or data center upgrades. Since we're using BES, if the BES server is offline or unable to communicate to the outside world, there's no way for email messages to get to/from your BB.

Otherwise, with unlimited email, it doesn't make much sense. At my current company (different then the above one), I get emails to my BB normally within a couple seconds of them getting to me in my email.

I the reason is that some people have a limited number of text messages they can send and recieve and have to pay for anything above that; with PINs we have unlimited access.

yeah you're right the only drawback is that you actually have to have a blackberry to use the PIN messaging

on topic, PIN messaging is the best. /story
IAWTP. Our BES pushes emails to the users within 5 seconds of receiving the email in their Outlook. Sometimes it's even on the BB b4 Outlook finds it.

PIN - PIN is the fastest of all, of course, but only 1-2 seconds in our environment.

I like Pin to PIn because of the reciept and seeing if it was displayed on the unit and its instant I use it to communicate with my staff plus I can do group pinning with bb messenger
