Changing the background color

Hi all,
I am developing a blackberry application.
I have implemented my own custom manager.I wish to have a colored backgoround instead of the default white.How is it possible?
When i override the paint method the complete screen gets painted to that color with no controls on it.I want to achieve something like this.
I want to display the background color and on top of that paste all my controls....
If some one has soln to this please help me
