Default Problem: my unlocked 8707v adds a "plus"symbol before all calls

Please Login to Remove!

I bought and used an unlocked 8707v in Hong Kong from a company called Three without any problems. I brought the phone to China and put in a pre-paid China Mobile SIM card. The phone has this one problem: when I call from my address book, redial a number or when I send an SMS the phone adds a "plus" symbol before the call so I can't use these features.

Please help because this problem is driving me crazy.

Thanks for the solutions and advice.

I'd check your Smart Dialing settings under Options in the phone application. I'm sure there is a setting in there to turn it off.

Hmmm ... the + is a standard prefix for international dialing and should be ignored when a call is processed. I tested this on my BlackBerry by typing in a number as +1-XXX-XXX-XXXX and it dialed correctly.

The only thing that I could suggest is that you play with the Smart Dialing settings within the Options of the Phone application.

Thanks for the replies. I don't see that smart dialing option in my Options or Advanced Options. I believe the firmware is 4.1. I will check three.com.hk for a firmware update.

The phone does not add a "+" before the calls placed in Hong Kong where I bought the phone. It does place a "+" now that I'm in China and for some reasons the calls don't go through.

Thanks for any new tips. I really want the phone to work.

You bought a used Vodafone mobile phone from 3, one of their competitors? Are you sure?

I think you may be looking in the wrong place. Follow these steps:

1) from the Home screen, press the green Send button to launch the Phone app

2) click the scroll wheel, scroll toward the bottom of the menu and select Options

3) Smart Dialing should be one of the options lised

Mark, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You. That worked like a charm. I changed the country code and everything was fixed.

It's kind of odd that on my first phone, a sony model, I brought to China I never had to change the country code.

The phone now works great.

I bought this blackberry an 8707g not v, my mistake, from three in hong kong.

Thanks for the solution.
