Default Sms messaging

Please Login to Remove!

Hi. I have an 8830 and want to know how come whenever I am in my SMS messages and want to compose a new one, but not reply it takes me to email. The quick key is c, at least it used to be on my 8730. Is there any way to change that...or assign opening a new sms a key? thanx in advance

The quick key shortcut IS 'c' for compose to email. There is not one similar for SMS/text.

thats so weak. why wouldnt they just keep it the same as the 8703? if i wanted to compose an email there should be another key or another key for composing sms. and there is no way to correct this? i remember seeing when i first started using it, when i hit see it said no message configured or something along those lines. thanx for the help though.

This the same shortcut that was present on the 8703. No change.

I am betting it has to more with the BB being primarily a business device of which SMS is less used, and email more. They do need a quickkey for composing an SMS... [email address]

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

On mine, if I do the 'c' for compose, it will SMS or email for the contact. It just depends, if I sms'd them last, it will do that or the opposite with email.

I too recall this happening when my 8700g was on OS 4.1. It would remember what I did last and do that function. Once I upgraded to OS 4.2, the 'c' key always composed a new e-mail. So being that the 8830 is using the 4.2 OS, it will always compose an e-mail.

Thanx guys. This site is great. I would have been on the phone for half an hour just to get a no with no explanation.

i am mostly replying to text messages. so i highlight the one i want to reply to and type "R" which automatically takes me to a new sms to reply to the sender. you can also do this while viewing the sms message

If you hit the "C" key and you had SMS'd that contact before, you will be composing an SMS message rather than an e-mail. The "C" function remembers what you did last on that contact. Still, it would be nice to have a dedicated SMS compose key...
