Unhappy Pearl Screwing up!

Please Login to Remove!

Please help me! Last night my Pearl just started screwing up. One minute I was using it and all was ok and the next it was taking over!

Example: I tried to send a text and before I could fininsh typing the little "options" screen came up and sent it ...I never touched a thing! Or it will just automatically open my address book and a contact before I ever press a button!

I haven't dropped it or wet it.

Try pulling battery for 30+ seconds.

Oh gosh ...I already did that ...a couple of times. It's almost like something is wrong with the pearl ...like it's too sensitive maybe. Does that make any sense??

Don't know. I haven't watched the 8100 threads and just now started playing with an 8100 myself...... Will have to see what others say..... But I wonder if a key or button is somehow broke or sticking? But I really have no clue.

I would say so! Do any of the keys or buttons feel different?

Perhaps pull the battery again and wait longer this time. Give it 30 seconds to a minute before you replace it. Otherwise, if you really don't think it's physically broken, perhaps do an OS reinstall... But wait a little while and see what others here say.

No, I didn't drop it or anything. That's what is so weird, it literally was fine and the next second started jumping ahead! Crazy! If all things fail, It is almost time for me to upgrade; but, I had planned on giving this one to my son, so hopefully I can get it figured out!

Keep making suggestions and thanks for helping me.

Happy New Year!

Default Sounds familiar

This sounds very similar to issues that I have had in the past few months. You have a key sticking.

You can try gently prying up on the keys around the trackball. That would sometimes work for me. Sometimes it would fix itself after a few days.

Do you carry your BB in your pants pocket?

I found that all of my key sticking problems were being caused by the pressure exerted on the keypad when the phone was in my pants pocket while sitting down.

I went through two Pearls and a lot of frustration before I figured this out.

I have since, went to a "smart" holster and have had zero problems. (BTW, I bought the Noble holster from Cellet and it's an awesome product).

Default Same Problem

Hi... yeah so I have this same problem and thank goodness I'm not the only one who experienced this...

- my texts send even if i wasn't trying to text, the send option would just pop up and send on the text when i all i want to do is view and not reply

- on blackberry messenger, it'll prompt me to send a msg or a file and it sends image files on its own!

- when the keys are on hold, you know how the phone goes into "idle" or whatever and the backlight goes off... well it keeps coming on to unlock handheld...

it's really frustrating cuz it just started happening out of nowhere. the night it started, i left it alone for a couple hours then it worked fine. then this afternoon, it started acting up again. i keep doing the battery pull but i'm afraid i'm doing that too much to the point that it might damage my phone.

will prying the keys work? and where can i find the directions for that?

it's like my phone is possessed! please help!!

just go back to verizon and tell them the problem. verizon is actually pretty with replacing the phone at the store. this way if u have any annoying scratches or anything then you get a brand new BB

Was the device exposed to liquid or moisture?

Smile This may sound odd.

I had a problem with a stereo remote. One button was continually being depressed and draining the battery. I took it apart and discovered a small spring must have been broken and gravity was pressing the button while at rest. So the remote will work if it's upside down. Gravity relieves the pressure on the button with the broken spring.

I would try operating the Pearl upside down (lying on your back) and see if the problem is replicated. If not, then one key or button may have a broken spring. Swapping out keyboard may solve the problem but you are on your own with that repair. My remote would cost $194.00 to replace new or $30 aftermarket. A new KB for a BB??? Not sure but sounds more $ than it's worth.

I hope this helps.

Unless you can make all your emails and texts while lying down. :D

Hmmm... Sounds like it just might be pressing enter. I would try removing and cleaning the trackball. Inspect the contact below and see if it totally flattened out. It might be making incidental contact. Other that that there are instructions with Pics for disassembling the device but do so at your own risk.

Good Luck!
