In short... The biggest reason to watch freemem, if it gets lower than (12 megs or so), contacts and messages get deleted by the system automatically. See JC's guide for more of an explanation @ http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ee-memory.html

Ok trying to upgrade my friend's 8310 to version 4.5...he has Windows XP, I've updated his DM to version 4.6 and during the install it comes to the point of "connecting to Boot ROM" and then gets a "Fatal Error during install while updating the device software". I've downloaded the OS again, even did a uninstall and re-downloaded the DM again, still getting the error. I have changed the usb cables, and it's not going thru a usb hub, it's direct to the computer.

Any ideas as to what is going wrong? This is frustrating the heck out of me.

Thanks in advance.

Has any one had any issues downloading and saving attachments from emails? I upgraded an 8310 and an 8300 to .110 and neither of them would let me download a 23 kb file thatwas attached to an email. THe both say that there is no space when free mem says over 20.

I gave it one more stab.

Its still restarting.

I noticed that it will only restart as soon as I turn mobile network on. I removed service books and tried it, and it still does it.

This is crazy.

I have a friend that just bought a used 8310 off ebay and it has 4.2 on it. He says he is on T-Mobile. Can he install the AT+T 4.5 OS without having to do anything with the vendor file?

I can not find the blackberry desktop manager on the start programs menu? Do you know why?

I am going to install the 4.6. I think I just ran the OS upgrade and forgot about the desktop manager.

Also, I thought I should run the handheld loader file and deleted the vendor file, but I just realized, I do not need to reinstall the OS. I already have it. Does it matter that I deleted that vendor file or should I put it back in there? I dont think I need it. Thank you,

Is it worth it? I think so. However, you must use the version for the 8320 on your 8320. This one is for the 8310 and the OS is device specific.

I see you are in PA too. So am I.. lol

Anyway, I upgraded mine maybe a month ago? and LOVE it! I had BB Smart for my email before, but haven't used it since I upgraded. I actually like the new "html mailbox" on the 4.5 OS better.

I upgraded mine (and my daughter's just this past week) thru T-mo's website and have been been very, very pleased with the new OS. It probably took about an hour, but was well worth it. From what I understand, doing it thru their website will not void your warranty.

The video recorder is pretty cool. Not the greatest quality, especially inside, but outside, it's actually not that bad at all.

I also love the new web browser. IMO, it's a HUGE upgrade over the old one. When you open it, you can immediately type in your URL, OR look at your recent history on the same page and click on it there. Very nice upgrade. Sites look way better with this version too.

Also very nice is the ability to watch videos from Youtube, etc. I'm a *little bit* of a football fan, so if I have no email to check, or don't feel like visiting a forum, going there while waiting to see the dentist, or while getting tires put on my car is kind of nice too! Not an essential, but definitely a nice add.

Even tho I did not have a problem during either of the 2 upgrades I did, definitely do a backup thru your BB desktop software first "just in case". There IS an option when you go to upgrade thru T-mo's site that will let you do it as well, and it will backup any "add-on" software too, but you would still want to do a regular backup.

Anyway, like I said, I love it and would definitely recommend it!

Edit to add.... OOPS!! I just realized we have the same OS. (where's the baghead smiley when you need him!) I thought you were upgrading from an earlier version. So sorry!

Default Profiles - Vibrate

Has anyone had a problem with the vibrate option since upgrading to the newest version of the OS?

I'm not sure if this is a hardware or software problem and hoping it is a software and not hardware as my warranty has expired. I did however try the battery pull and that did not solve the problem either.

Suggestions or am I SOL?
