Thanks mortgageguy, I've seen that one and like it a lot, but it seems to me that people have said that it is a generic PDA case that doesn't have the sleeper magnet in it.

Can anyone confirm that?

Absolutely.

It's a universal case. No magnet.

But many people have mentioned being able to purchase small magnets and then glue them into the inside of other magnetless cases (covering the magent with felt or cloth so it doesn't scratch the device) so I'm sure you could do the same thing with the Krusell.

You are correct, no magnet. I have installed 3 magnets on 3 different cases. It's very easy to do. Here is a link to where I got mine. They are .30 cents each. To me, if you find a case you really like and it does not have the magnet in it then it's worth .30 cents to affix your own.

Cool. Thanks for the link. How exactly did you affix the magnet? What was your process for that? Is it strong enough to go through the leather if I placed it in the fonrt pouch area? How's the best way to figure out the location that works best with the 8700?

Lots of questions.

Thanks

Mike

Hey Mike,

I have done it a couple of different ways. The toughest part of the whole thing(it's really not tough) is to find the exact location inside the case which puts the blackberry into sleep mode. the location on the blackberry is the right half of the "space" key going up to the "b" key. It will also work on the back of the unit just to the left above the release button for the back battery panel. Once you have the location inside the case, the easiest way it to tape it there. I used black duct tape. You don't need to cover it with anything else as the duct tape will not scratch the BB. You can also super glue it but then you will need to cover it wih some felt or microfiber cloth(like you clean your glasses with). The only problem with the super glue is once it's stuck --it's stuck! So make sure it's in the right place.

I know this has been discussed- even within this thread (which I have been following closely) but I feel a need to have this issue updated.

I am frustrated as a first time BB user that there is no OEM case available from RIM directly yet. I bought my 8700 on the first day of availability and I have been waiting patiently ever since for the OEM holders. My plastic holder broke after a month. I am using a nice holder that is built for another BB model but it is hard to remove the 8700.

Anyway, can anyone speak to this issue? Why does it take 3 months to launch a holder? Does RIM focus on accessories the way a company like Nokia (who I used for years) does or is it an afterthought and I should just accept a holder from another company(Forte etc...). I have seen many holders on this forum but I am a fan of OEM- mabey I am waiting for something that will never come out or if it does the line will be limited.

Any thoughts?

I completely agree John.

If you look at most other cell phones, when they are released they are always released along with several stock OEM accessory items. Usually car charger, ear bud, case and travel charger. These items are always made so they are available at the new device's launch.

I don't know why RIM doesn't recognize the fact that they are missing a sale opportunity. Surely people would purchase extra OEM accessory items at the time they purchased the device if they were available. They are probably less likely to think they need anything four months down the road after they've become used to the included items.

I totally agree too. However, they are not missing out on any money from me. Whenever the OEM leather case comes out I will buy one.

I will buy it when it comes out- unless they hit my tipping point and I give in and by another brand. What that tipping point is- I do not know -but I feel close. I am starting to think they do not have plans for a full line of 8700 cases- I just don't get it...

John

Well The cases haven't landed yet but the 7100's did so it looks like just a couple more days for the 8700 version - hang in there.

One thing I found out is that the quanties available have be woefully underperdicted by RIM's distributor... I made them aware of the quantities we have in que. On a side topic we should have more 8700 ext batts next week.

Well it took less time than I thought- Hah- I reached my tipping point today (one post by RCG was all it took I guess)and decided to buy the Smartphone depot RIM case on backorder.

$30 after shipping but at least I will have a case made for my phone.
I think he uses RIM products via distribution- should have bought my Pro clip there also I guess.

Wow- I thought I could hold out but if RIM posts them on their site and shows 10 different cases for the 8700 and I fall in love with one- I will prob buy it also anyway.

I feel like such a noob. I could not find the RIM case on smartphone depot's site. I clicked on the 8700 accessories page and all I could find were plastic holsters. Any chance you can post a link to the backorder page?

Thanks!

P.S. - My 8700c has not even arrived yet, and I need a case before it gets here. I did order the invisiSHIELD screen protector for it already though.

Thanks Igreenberg!

From what I've read here you seem to have one of the most complete case collections. I would like to find a case that is horizontal, allows easy of use of the device out of the case (ie faces the correct way in right hand for immediate use when drawn), has a sleeper magnet, and minimal profile when clipped to the belt.

What would be your recommendation?

There really aren't many choices when it comes to horizontal cases.

The only one which comes to mind that fits your criteria (the sleeper magnet is the tough one) is the Fortte Horizontal.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the BB face outward in this case. The magnet placement is such that the BB is only put to sleep if facing outward.

I don't think there is an exact match for your case preferences out yet. Nutshell needs to make a horizontal case!

Not sure. If it's the same as the vertical, no.

I put my 8700 screen facing in into my vertical 100% of the time and the magnet always works. The magnet is on the back part of the case. They place a little sticker showing you its exact location.
