Not true that new OSs will end for the Pearl, since the Pearl was release they still have upgraded 7100 and 8700 OS and 8700 is up to 4.2.1. All reports are that they will be upgrading all high memory (internal) units 8700, Pearl, 8800 to 4.2.2/4.3 and then will stop upgrading the 8700. Also, a release is likely in the works for Pearl because the support site notes specifically for the Pearl that to get stereo bluetooth support upgrade to 4.2.2 or higher.

When updating the desktop manager, do I have to go thru all of the sequential upgrades, ie. do I first have to upgrade to SP1 before I can upgrade to SP2? Or can I just install the latest and be good?

On a new PC I simply installed the latest, SP2. I did NOT have the earlier DM's installed, nor did I install SP1 before installing SP2.
It worked fine.

During upgrade?
I did the upgrade to the latest OS and it went flawlessly (at least it appeared to). Thanks to all with the many posts...made me feel comfortable in trying this.
However, one thing I didn't see mentioned in any of the posts: in one of the first screens, you are presented with choices as to what options you want to install. Unsure what would be safe to remove or add, I chose to go ahead and use what was already selected. However, there were a bunch of foreign choices selected, and some not...I am English (US version) speaking and don't speak any foreign language (well, maybe a bit of German and a bit of Spanish), but I'm sure I don't speak, nor am I likely to ever need to speak Turkish...so, my question, what could I have safely removed, and what would the consequences have been?
Is it possible to make changes now? If I really don't need Turkish, if I remove it (just using this as an example, but could have used any), what will that cause to happen? And, why was Turkish one of the selected languages, but not Arabic? Anyway, is it too late to dump unneeded items, or to select some that might be of some value (for example, English medical, financial and legal terms) to me.
TIA,
Rob

Wirelessly posted (BB 8860: BlackBerry8100/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)
Simply plug the BB back in and run application loader again and uncheck what you don't want. You don't need any of the other languages.

Something else that I just noticed is when you have the music player up, you don't get message sounds like SMS or Email.
Also, under the phone options, you now have the ability to be notified of an SMS during a phone call.

I dont trust any of these updates. They all screw up. at least all the one that are 4.2.1.1XX. Th enultitao crap is annoying as hell especially for someone like me who texts more than I talk. The only stable ones are the ones the OS prior to the above. Im still using 4.2.0.67. Only thing I miss is that on this you dont have the option of having all your icons show on the desktop instead of as a list when you hit the *menu* key. I wish i knew which OS gave me that option but also didnt have the multitap bullcrap.

Hi everyone, Im new to blackberry, just got a pearl, and was told by AT&T that I would still be able to SMS and MMS without data plan as long as I had multimedia plan. Well after getting pearl, I discovered this is not true. I can SMS but no MMS, and Im reading everywhere that I can't without dataplan. I also read that someone upgraded to the Mobilkom Austria [A1] 4.2.1.101 and now they are able to do so. I don't need the email or internet (unless I can pay by usage because I wouln't use much),I really need to text. Will this upgrade work for me? If not, can someone suggest something else? I know TMobile has the enabler, but what can I do to work around this with AT&T
