Added instructions to *not* pull the battery during the process.

I had the TMo version of the firmware .64 and I wanted to try Opera mini on my Pearl. Installed both the 3.0 and 4 (beta) versions of Opera mini. Neither was able to access the internet in the first few days but all of a sudden 3.0 was able to access. I upgraded my Pearl to the latest firmware (in the hope that the new Opera mini might work; plus other features of the upgrade - better sound quality, etc.) according to the instructions posted here and was a smooth upgrade. However, Opera mini still won't work.

Has anybody been able to try Opera mini 4 beta on their Pearl? Help!
The demos on the opera website look cool.

I agree - Opera 3 works fine. But no luck with the 4 beta yet. The new version allows to see the page in original layout - just like the iPhone. Try this:
http://www.operamini.com/beta/demo/

Edit: A quick search brought a thread for the opera mini discussion. My apologies. Should have searched first!

Has anyone experienced random slow downs with the new OS? Every so often I'll be trying to type out a text and the phone just becomes sooo slow I need to do a battery pull. Any ideas? I'm not positive the upgrade it the culprit, but I have not seen this on my phone before.

Default No 8100 Smartphone option on the ATT download page

Just went to the following link (from post 1) and there's no 8100 Smartphone option on the ATT download page. The only 8100 option that appears in the pulldown menu is for the ATT Red and Main Slate 8100c. Can anyone verify this? Is there another place to dl the new ATT 8100 Smartphone sw from? Is the ATT Red/Maine Slate 8100c dl different than the regular 8100 sw version?

ANy help clearing this up would be most appreciated! Thx.

It's all the same. They just changed the device name titles after this was posted here. Just find the 4.2.1.154/4.2.1.96 OS for ANY 8100 device.

Hi everybody.

I come from France and i'm the owner of a great Pearl. My problem is that my vendor has only released the oldest firmware you can find for this phone. I'm presently working on 4.2.0.51....
So, I would like to know if installing the version you propose is possible with a French provider and if it will not affect my communications (as our networks are not really the same i think). Please note that my phone is locked (SFR enterprises).
I hope your version fixes these ****ing errors that sometime erases my mails with no reason, do not react normally when i try to answer a call (and so destroy my ears !) or show bad pictures of my correspondants during a call.

Waiting for your answers. Many thx.

I'm currently running T-Mobile .64 and I'm running Opera Mini 4 beta. I haven't had time to upgrade to the latest pearl firmware yet. Is the dropped call issue fixed? I had that problem with the TIM Italy and Rogers release which is why I went back to Tmo .64

Are your TCP settings correct?

Options > Advanced Options > TCP

APN should be: wap.voicestream.com

Both the versions of Opera mini work fine for me now. Uninstalling and reinstalling Opera mini 4 helped.

The OS upgrade definitely improved the sound quality during calls. Installed the themes as well, but haven't got bored of the default theme yet. I got the Pearl this past weekend. Setting up the Pearl as a modem (just for fun) on my laptop was a breeze too. Having gtalk, yahoo mesngr, an rss reader (viigo) on the go is nice! New to the blackberry world. Good experience so far!

Has anyone else noticed tremendous increase in battery draining with installing and using this OS? Or it could be just my new blackberry, i had to have it replaced the earphone wasn't working.

Hit the menu key and select "Go To." Then type in an address. (I'm assuming you have a BB data plan.)

Not necessarily. Do you have a specific Blackberry Data Plan? It usually runs $20 per month. No BB data plan, no BBMaps.
