Rumor has it that higher-quality text messaging is a major upcoming feature, either for the 7520 or nextel's next blackberry. In fact, most 7520's are provisioned for multimedia messaging, even though they can't actually (yet) do that... its only been in the last half year or so where people want to do lots of text messages for nextel blackberries-- they are primarily business tools...

Default Receivie SMS messages

Ok, just got off the phone with a CSR at nextel. Please correct me if I received BAD information

Messages sent to me via [email address] go through and should.

These would be considered "SMS" messages

Messages sent to me via [email address] DO NOT go through. This is a "two way" SMS message and is not supported on the Blackberry. It will not even send the message as a "e-mail" to my blackberry.

I didn't think this was correct. I know I can't send SMS messages, only e-mail and I can live with that. But I have a lot of friends / auto-paging services that are pre-configured to "messaging.nextel.com" that I now have to correct.

From what people are saying, it seems that I "should" be able to receive messages sent via both e-mail addresses or from other nextel phones via SMS (or from the nextel website)

Thanks for the advice

So is there any way to disable SMS receiving on Nextel? I don't particularly like being charged when someone sends me a useless message.

I'd call Nextel myself, but the split billing on my account makes them a chore to talk to.

You can turn off the sms's, but that turns off your voicemail as well (the two are related...). If you are getting spam that seems to be coming from one particular source, customer care can submit a ticket to try and stop the source of that spam, as long as you are able to provide info about when it is happening..

I get text messages from verizon wirelles customers all the time and I am able to respond. I have them send it to my #############@nextel.blackberry.net address. It also seems to me that when they send it to that address it only goes to my BB it does not go to the web client.
