I have a new blackberry 5810 that was supossed to be unlocked but it seems to be locked. The box and phone doesn't have a logo or info about a specific carrier. I made what you said (without the sim card):

-Options
-SIM Card
-Type "ALT" + "mepd"
-Look for tell-tale signs such as "Active" next to "Network", which probably indicates a Network-level lock.

The blackberry shows:
SIM: Disabled
Network: Active
Network Subset: Disable
Service Provider: Disable
Corporate: Disable

Do this means that the blackberry is locked? If locked, what Carries it's locked to, can I get this info? I don't know what to do, I will have to sell this phone. Any help will be very appreciated.

On the ATT 7280, I found a site in the uk called: http://www.m-99.co.uk/Mobile_Phone_Unlocking/ Blackberry/blackberry.html

they want $19.95 (EU). all they need is the IMEI number and will send you the unlocking code. you get the IMEI number by entering *#06#

has anyone found that this works?

You are going to have to contact the original carrier and see if they will unlock it for you. Since they won't, the only alternative is to use Bongo Wireless. You have to send them the BB, along with $100 US. There are no other unlocking services today.

Just like it says in this thread.

my BB 7280 has an icon with a circle around it and a line across it and say 507 at the bottom. any ideas? that mean it's locked? cuz the thing won't do anything besides turn on the light.

ok, I had a problem with my 7520. called support and they said it was locked. they had me enter some numbers and reboot. below is what my screen now says:

SIM CARD: Security Disabled
Personalization:
SIM Unknown
Network Unknown
Network Subset Unknown
Service Provider Unknown
Corporate Unknown

does this mean it is unlocked?

No, it means that it has no operating systems on it. Download the latest OS from your carrier, execute the download, connect the BB and start Desktop Manager.

Mine says the same thing as this. I also have a 7520 with nextel, im not sure what you mean though by no OS. Are you referring to the OS nextel provides for the BB? Cause my BB still has the OS that it was shipped w/ from Nextel.
