Noticed a pretty big difference in battery life (for the worse) when going from .122 to .148. I haven't changed anything else and have GPS active at all times.

Cool Same thing happened when I first purchased the device.

I actualy am experiencing this now after upgrading to .148 last week. FWIW, I experienced the problem with battery drain when I first purchased my Storm this past February. After a few days the battery draw stablized.

Actually I have heard that Lithium Ion are better than NiMH for phones. So my bad. I use the rechargeable NiMh batteries in electronic devices like my camera instead of buying batteries all the time. I take my USB cord with my car charger adapter with me because it loses battery life rapidly. I think my phone lasts me about 8-9 hours with a few short phone calls and just texting.

the last three nights I have charged by battery all day at work and not left the office until around 8 p.m. it's nearly 1 a.m. right now and I've sent a couple of texts and checked twitterberry a couple of times and my batter is down to two bars. Something is definitely draining it. I have no idea what it is yet.

I'm have the following apps

Twitterberry: which only updates manually
Tweet Genius: manually as well
Weather Bug: I need to check the settings on this.
Facebook: Not sure if this is constantly running in the background or not.
gmail app
google app

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Well I promised I was going to make my report. After deleting all 3rd party apps I must say I have to agree with the posts that attributed the battery draining problem to the 3rd party apps. With no 3rd party apps I got several full days performances with my battery. But what would be the use of my device without 3rd party apps?

Ran into the battery drain problem, so I deleted WeatherBug on a hunch (I was pretty sure that it was the only app I had which was always active) and the drain disappeared.

Default Drain Issue

I was unsure about upgrading after I read this thread, but I went ahead. I would start using my storm about 8am everyday and by 3pm I needed to dock it. I have my own business and use my storm constantly. After upgrading the OS I have a better battery life. My battery last until 8pm or longer, and I will still have 30% of power left at that time. I too have weather bug and other 3rd party apps, and I religiously close out all of them when I am done. I feel that apps running in the background is the greatest battery drain. I am excited about this upgrade because by storm seems to run better and faster. I would definatley recommend that anyone upgrade to the new OS

Do you have GPS active as well? If that's the case I may just get rid of Weatherbug and have gps on all the time. As of right now i have it disabled along with weatherbug and my battery lasts for a couple of days.

Try to install your apps back one by one and see if the problem comes back? After I deleted my 3rd party apps and did a battery pull than waited a day I installed one app a day and so far have no problems. The reason I did one a day was to catch the one that drained my battery. For me just deleting the app and installing it again after a battery bull fixed my problem.

Well I've reinstalled all my apps now...can't say I have a battery issue anymore...hence I can fairly say the solution for me is such...

Wirelessly posted

I used to have some major issues with the battery drain but he issue was fixed . What was causing the battery drain on my end was the the 3rd part software I was using . Stopped using it and know the battery will last me a whole day with no issues I think once the software that was using gets out of beta then it will be a major difference .

Could you elaborate more on what this change will do?

Okay here's an update. I removed WeatherBug and have GPS location on. Battery life has greatly improved, seeing the same as having no GPS on. It's pretty nice. Thanks for every ones help.

From what I understand global will continue to search and try to switch network types. That is a definite battery drain

It drives me crazy that we are having this discussion in the first place. I love the BB Storm and what it does, I just wish the app memory issue would go away. I can deal with the battery drain. I too have recharge cords everywhere. And, I've noticed a greater battery drain since upgrading to 148.

I will do a battery pull, Quick Pull doesn't work if app memory is 0.0%, and sometimes won't even use the BB for an hour and the look at it and the app memory is 0 again. Ah!

My question is, isn't there some way, logging app use, to determine which apps are causing the drain on the system?

Blackberry button all the way at the botom is close or exit on some. Things like Weatherbug gives you and exit button. If you just hit the phone end buttom (RED button) the app will still run in the background.
